Veteran telecommunications industry executive to lead EWIA in helping solve Europe’s mobile connectivity challenge
Brussels (7 September 2020) – The European Wireless Infrastructure Association (EWIA), the leading trade association of wholesale wireless infrastructure providers in Europe, announced today that Tobías Martínez Gimeno has been named the organisation’s new Chairperson with immediate effect. Tobías succeeds Olivier Huart, who stepped down after concluding his mandate on 31st August 2020 and having successfully led the association for the last three years.
“We thank Olivier for his dedication and leadership and for laying the foundations for EWIA’s future success,” said EWIA Secretary General, Russell Patten. “The new era of connectivity is here, and Tobías’s significant expertise and experience in the sector, ranging from 5G rollout to greater investments, will ensure that the association and its members meet Europe’s mobile connectivity challenge.”.
Prior to his role as Cellnex Telecom’s top-ranking executive (CEO), Tobías joined Acesa Telecom (Abertis Group) in 2000, first as a Board Member and Director General of Tradia, and subsequently of Retevisión. Before joining the Abertis Group, he headed his own business project in Information and Telecommunication Systems for more than 10 years.
Tobías studied Telecommunications Engineering and holds a Diploma in Top Management from the IESE Business School (PADE) and a Diploma in Marketing Management from the Instituto Superior de Marketing de Barcelona (Higher Institute of Marketing of Barcelona). EWIA’s members are committed to enhance Europe’s connectivity by investing long-term in high quality shared telecom infrastructure.
